BLOG
Welcome to the place where you get a taste of the ramblings of a wildlife photographer. I hope you will be informed, possibly amused, and maybe even shed a tear. The blog will be updated on a seasonal basis giving you insight into the thoughts and events of that given period.
Summer 2010 (June)
In June I finally made it up to Northumberland, (this was due in May), the trip was mixed from a photography point of view the first few days didn't provide the best light and the wildlife locations didn't bear much fruit. I did though visit the Farnes on 3 separate days and was able to learn quite a bit about the islands and the behavior of the birds which is quite important when it comes to photographing them. Also I did some experimental shots along the coast to for my landscape portfolio, so hopefully I shall have a good mix from the trip.
Interesting to see while going to the Farnes the number of cameras and lens is increasing every year - there seemed to be more camera bags than people - I am not quite sure what to make of it and wonder what happens to all the photoagraphs?
My next location is probably going to be Bristol, Wales (Red Kites) and then somewhere on the west coast for some coastal sunsets - east coast at this time of year is a touch too early.
Spring 2010 (March to May)
From a wildlife point of view spring is a great season as there is lots going on. Fro me the photography didn't get too much attention and the camera didn't get to capture too much. I did spend a a few days on the East Coast and did some manage a few landscape photographs. Interesting I popped over to Gibraltar Point and in one morning saw a number of subjects on my hit list to photograph, unfortunately I didn't get a single shot of either of them but it was good to see them all in the morning I was there - Barn Owl, Fox, and Hare.
Winter 2010 (January to February)
Well what a start to the year; so much snow! Ii will certainly be in everyone's memory for both good and bad reasons I expect. Over New Year I was in the Lake District and it was great seeing the snow capped hills - it was like being at a Swiss ski resort.
During January I was able to get out into the Yorkshire dales trying out a new wide angle lens with some landscape photography. This area of photography has taken a greater focus in recent months - mainly due to demand from buyers but also to accommodate personal needs of doing less travel at the minute and thus finding time to look at other forms of photography. Over Christmas though I upgraded my camera and this should give greater opportunities for both wildlife and landscape photography, and therefore I am looking forward to the coming year with great anticipation.
Another milestone is the website is now one year old! Thanks for everyone's support over the last year and I am already planning further ahead with lots of dates already in the diary for 2010 - with more to follow and am looking forward to seeing old and new faces.
2009 was quite tough for many people in terms of the recession and I am sure this will be similar for many people in 2010, but I do believe their is an optimism in the air as people make new starts and seek new opportunities.
One last thought if anyone has knowledge of any good photographic locations for either wildlife or landscapes - which includes common species such as fox and robins do let me know - as I am making plans for my photographic subjects for the year other next few weeks. Another option is to join the Facebook group (see link page) and post the info their too.
This year will also see the introduction of some limited edition photographs which I hope you will enjoy.
Have a great year and I will be writing again in the Spring.
